Snugly CoWriter got a big update: autosave, Book Settings, Story Bible and more

Published on November 1, 2026

I spent the last few days going through Snugly CoWriter from top to bottom: fixing bugs, making sure your writing never gets lost, and adding the features I kept wishing it had while writing. Here's everything that's new.

Your writing is safe now

  • Autosave: every 30 seconds, when you switch chapters, and when you leave the app on your phone. A small "Saved 12:03" under the editor tells you it worked.
  • Accepting an AI draft saves it right away. Your previous text is kept in Versions, so you can always go back.
  • Tidier version history: the last 20 versions plus one per day are kept, instead of an endless pile.

Book Settings (the ⚙ button in the editor)

Every book now has its own settings:

  • Writing style: genre, tone, point of view, tense, language (16 languages) and free notes for the AI ("short chapters, lots of dialogue, British spelling"...). The AI follows them in every draft and every edit.
  • AI model per book.
  • How much the AI reads with each message: only chapter titles, short or full story plans, and the full chapter or just its last part. Each option shows roughly how many tokens it costs, so you decide between "the AI knows everything" and "cheap".

Story Bible

  • Facts are now grouped: characters, places, items, world rules, events.
  • When the AI writes something new (a name, a place, a rule), it can suggest it as a fact. One tap on Add and it's in your Story Bible.
  • New AI button: Suggest Facts for the Story Bible reads your chapter and lists what's worth remembering.

New writing helpers

  • Continue writing here: put the cursor anywhere, and the AI writes the next paragraphs right there. Keep it or revert it.
  • Word goals for each chapter and for the whole book, with a progress bar and a book total above the chapter list.
  • New chat: start a fresh conversation with the AI. Your book, chapters and facts stay.

Share your book

Turn on Sharing in Book Settings and you get a private reading link: a clean, phone-friendly page with a table of contents and light/dark mode. Only people with the link can read it (it's not listed anywhere or in search engines), and switching sharing off kills the link.

Cheaper AI conversations

Old AI drafts used to be sent again with every new message, which quietly burned a lot of tokens. Now only the latest drafts are sent in full. Same help, much less cost.

Fixes

  • Light mode: text in the editor was almost invisible. Fixed, and every popup now follows the light/dark switch.
  • When the AI service has a hiccup, you now see a clear message instead of a broken chat.
  • Splitting a chapter could create duplicate chapters. Fixed.
  • Deleting a chapter no longer makes its sub-chapters disappear.
  • Very long AI drafts were cut off when saved. Fixed.
  • Several security and privacy fixes behind the scenes.
  • The editor loads less stuff from other websites and the service got about half its size lighter.

As always, tell me what breaks, what you miss, and what you'd love to see next.
